Module 1 Nature vs. Nurture

Q Hello everyone! A common theme throughout the course is the nature-nurture debate. Take a moment to share your thoughts and to comment on the thoughts of others. For example, share your thoughts on one or more of the following: • Do you think you would be the same person is you grew up somewhere else? How might you be the same? How might you be different? • How do twin studies allow us to separate nature from nurture? Do you know any twins? Are you a twin? • How do adoption studies allow us to better understand the nature-nurture debate? Are you adopted? Do you know anyone who is? Remember, your comments should be thoughtful, well written and contribute something to the discussion. This is a college classroom, not an IM session. Simply saying "I agree" or "I don't get it, " is not sufficient. This is a great way to get to know your colleagues and better understand the information. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the nature-nurture debate.

I was born and raised in East Los Angeles. I feel like growing up in the East side people think "it is ghetto" or "you won't make it far in life growing up there", "it is dangerous", etc. I feel like growing up here you have the option if you want to go in the right direction or wrong direction. I feel like we should all know what is right from wrong. I have a lot of family that grew up here as well and majority of them are very successful and some chose the wrong path in life. So, growing up in East LA and still living here I can say I am a very humbled person.
